So yesterday we had rain. Lots of rain. Around an inch of rain. For Minnesota in December that is not very normal and not very welcome because the temperatures will eventually get cold after the storm passes and things turn into an ice rink. I like ice skating but I prefer not to be able to do it on my deck.

I came home from work to a story from my dad. He had gone up to check my wood stove for me and had come across water gushing down the back hillside and all over my back deck. He quickly rigged up some old steel pieces to carry the water off my deck. He said it was running so fast it was bubbling out of two separate holes and he could’ve filled a five gallon bucket in no time.

When I got there it had lessoned but was still a small waterfall across and off of my deck and a pool of water under my house and in my herb garden. Thankfully the cement slabs the house sits on are pretty high.

It finally stopped pouring around 9:00pm (21.00) so I was able to take a video.

This morning there was no more water across my deck but I can’t help but be concerned. We already have a bunch springs on our farm that showed up much in the same fashion as this one. A couple of them are on the back side of the same hill that I live on and about the same elevation.

This winter waterfall may be a one time thing. I might be ok with that. Secretly I’ve always wanted a Falling Water home like Frank Loyd Wright designed. I could possibly have running water with almost no effort on my part. Time will tell.
