So here I am. Back to blogging. I was very preoccupied the last couple of years with building a house and getting lyme disease. I’m going to mostly blog about the first one because that’s more fun I think.
I didn’t realize until after I had built my little house that tiny houses were the in thing. Apparently I am part of the latest and greatest fad and didn’t even know it. I built mine because I wanted my own space after having to live with my parents for many more years than I should have been. It’s pretty normal to do that on a farm but still annoying for me, so I bit the bullet and built the house.
I absolutely love it but I can say that it’s not something that everyone would like or should try. I live without electricity (for the most part) and running water. I don’t mind this at all since I am only about a hundred yards from my parents house. I use the computer in my office at the parents house and also shower and wash my clothing there. Anything needing extra refrigeration or freezer space lives at my parents also. I was criticized for this when I first lived in my house because I wasn’t a puritan of the off the grid group, or I wasn’t a good hippie, blah, blah, blah. I not so politely told them to mind their own business. I do what I need to to have the life I want and it works out well for me. I would encourage others to do what works for them. I have learned quite a bit about building, cooking on a small stove that isn’t a cook stove, water usage and using a cooler for a refrigerator among other things. It is my goal to write about all these things in future blogs in order to pass on any wisdom I have acquired over the last couple of years to aspiring tiny house, off the grid dwellers (my Amish friends have taught me a lot), and hobby farmers.
If there are any topics that readers would like me to specifically cover please let me know!
Until next time…..
