The weather is still warm here. We got a little bit of a sprinkle last night and there is more rain on the way. It has been dry here again and we have been in a fire watch/warning for the last couple weeks. Because it’s so dry, sparks from the farm machinery (e.i. combines, tractors, etc.) that are harvesting the now ready beans and corn,
have been lighting fires in the fields. There haven’t been any field fires close to us but there have been plenty within 60 miles. We’ve never had a field fire here that I can remember but my uncle did lose a round baler to a bale that started on fire.
I’m hoping to get my vehicle back today as there was an antifreeze leak in it last week. Ironically it wouldn’t leak for the mechanic.:) Makes me feel completely crazy but I know I saw green stuff dripping in a large puddle in front of my vehicle. I’m very thankful to have a good mechanic. Especially one that explains things to me like a normal, rational person and doesn’t make me feel stupid. He pressure checked it and found a small hole at the top of the radiator. Yay! I’m not crazy!
My other issue is the puppy. Gazelle learned that there are eggs in the chickens coop and has been taking them out and eating them for who knows how long. Because she’s an incredibly intelligent dog she was taking them farm away from the coop so there was no sign of a shell. It just looked like the chickens weren’t laying any. My parents put up a cattle panel that the chickens can squeeze through but the dog cannot. Good idea, but the chickens don’t seem to like walking through the panel to get back into the coop to lay their eggs. Annoying but it should eventually start to get cold and then they will be locked in so I won’t have to worry about it.
We cut two pickup loads of wood last week. That is all stacked nice and neat and waiting to be split for use in the cookstove.
There’s always something here on the farm. You just never know what that will be.:)
