I do many different things for my landscaping work but the most rewarding to me is working on neglected gardens. You know, those old ones that are full of weeds but you can still see a few flowers poking out waiting for someone to rescue them.
Overgrown and neglected gardens are like a treasure chest waiting to be opened. You never know what precious, beautiful thing you may find and how much booty is hiding underneath the cover. It can mean hours, days, weeks or even months and years of tedious labor but the beauty that unfolds in the end is, in my opinion, well worth the time, the exhaustion and the sore muscles.
I try to look at all of life’s challenges the same as those old neglected gardens. Those little flowers of hope are always showing through no matter how bad the weeds get; begging you to uncover them. Once you dig through the difficult weeds and prune back some of the unruly shrubs the flowers of hope have more room to grow and spread. It may take days, weeks, months and even years. You may get tired, heartbroken and sore but in the end your garden will have grown tremendously. You’re new found confidence and sense of accomplishment will feed the flowers of hope and maintain them for the years to come.
A lot of work? Yes. But well worth it.
